Rooftop solar panels on govt bldgs a non-starter in Rajasthan
- Central government’s directive to instal rooftop solar panels on all government buildings remains a non-starter in Rajasthan. Centre has already sent a reminder for the installation of grid connected solar rooftop systems on government buildings.
- Aimed at lowering the electricity costs, Centre had urged in August 2015 to set up solar rooftop projects.However, Rajasthan is yet to kick start the installation in full swing forcing Centre to issue a reminder.
- In a missive on May 31, Central government noted, “It is requested to kindly explore opportunities to instal grid connected solar rooftop systems in available roof space and other available space fit for the purpose.The steps taken in this regard may also be intimated“.
- Central government has set a target for installation of one lakh megawatt (MW) solar power plants by the year 2022. Out of this, about 40,000 MW has to come from grid connected solar rooftops systems. Centre wants Rajasthan to play an active role in installing solar rooftops systems. Read More…
